Harmonization is critical for the co-ordination of biosafety at the CARICOM level.
This policy document, which was developed via a consultative process involving
regional stakeholders, outlines the objectives, principles and advantages of
harmonization, and the mechanisms via which this is to be achieved. The
document was presented to the 71st Special Meeting of the CARICOM’s Council
for Trade and Economic Development (COTED) – Agriculture held in Guyana
from 4 – 6 October 2017, where there was agreement that the Regional Policy for
Biosafety should be adopted.
